Anifilm 2025

This year, our department team once again participated in the creation of the festival map for the International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm – for the sixth time already. The map served festival visitors as a practical guide to festival venues, screening halls, and relaxation areas.
The map was traditionally created in collaboration with graphic designer Ondřej Horáček from Studio Horáček and the festival organizers. Its creation is the result of a combination of cartographic expertise, graphic sensitivity, and good knowledge of Liberec and its surroundings. This year, our students also got involved by collecting feedback directly from visitors during the festival. Thanks to this, we receive valuable insights that help tailor the map even better to the needs of the audience in future editions.
This year, the project also received official recognition – the Czech Cartographic Society awarded the Anifilm map series as a significant achievement in the Map of the Year 2024 competition. The award is a testament to the long-term quality and the original integration of cartography with the cultural environment.
The Anifilm festival map is thus not only a practical tool but also an example of how cartography can be applied in unexpected interdisciplinary collaborations.

A night whole of (not only little) scientists

On Friday, October 6, 2023, the Department of Geoinformatics and Didactics of Informatics was one of the few departments of the FP TUL to participate in the national event Night of Scientists and, for the first time, opened the doors of the Digital Competence Laboratory DigiCompLab in Building G of the University of Liberec campus to the public. Hundreds of visitors could try working with robotic toys, getting to know their homes on floor maps, and exploring the shapes of the Liberec landscape prepared by 3D printing by touch.

GIS Day 2023: 2 days, 17 schools and 600 visitors

After a break of several years, we are returning to the tradition of the GIS Days event in Liberec, which is popular among primary and secondary schools. This year's event, already the twentieth year, introduced the work with GIS by five partners: the Regional Authority of the Liberec Region, the Liberec City Council, the Fire Rescue Corps of the Czech Republic and the Army of the Czech Republic, all under the leadership of the Faculty of Science, Humanities and Pedagogy of the Liberec Technical University.
