A night whole of (not only little) scientists
On Friday, October 6, 2023, the Department of Geoinformatics and Didactics of Informatics was one of the few departments of the FP TUL to participate in the national event Night of Scientists and, for the first time, opened the doors of the Digital Competence Laboratory DigiCompLab in Building G of the University of Liberec campus to the public. Hundreds of visitors could try working with robotic toys, getting to know their homes on floor maps, and exploring the shapes of the Liberec landscape prepared by 3D printing by touch.

On Friday evening and at the beginning of the night, the Digital Competence Lab (DigiCompLab) was transformed into a meeting place for scientists, students, and the public to explore the possibilities and potential of digital technology and science together. Our interactive activities and displays allowed visitors to explore how digital technologies can impact our world. Highlights included:
- A floor "pedal" map of the Czech Republic and Liberec: Visitors could pedal around their homes on this giant Czech Republic and Liberec map while learning how data is generated using satellite-based ground surveys. This activity was popular with all generations.
- Working with robotic toys: our youngest visitors were fascinated by the mechanical toys that taught them programming and logical thinking in a fun way. Many of them took away a smile from this part of the event.
- 3D printing and touch terrains of Liberec using augmented reality: this exhibition was a journey into the future. Visitors could watch 3D printing become a reality and use augmented reality to explore the 3D terrain of Liberec. This was an experience to remember.
The Scientists' Night at the Digital Competence Lab (DigiCompLab) was an excellent opportunity to showcase the fascinating world of digital technology and science. Thank you to everyone who attended, and we look forward to more inspiring events in the future.
